Sailing
There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats - K. Grahame
Grits out for a nice fall afternoon sail
Sailing - or messing about in boats - has been a large part of my life since the 70's. For a non-swimmer and
someone who spent no time on the water as a child, and someone who bought his first sailboat purely for
the aesthetics involved, it's been quite an adventure. The boat in these photographs is named Grits - so
named because of its' Southern heritage, a favorite college story and because I like grits. It's also the
name of the website but the boat came years before the website.

I've owned Grits for more than 20 years and used it for cruising, daysailing, racing and as an escape. With
friends I helped take a sailboat from Guntersville, Alabama down the Tennessee River into the
Tennessee-Tombigbe Waterway, to Mobile Bay and across to Pensacola, Florida where it served as a beach
condo and ocean sailor. Lots of friends and adventures on sailboats.
